Dr.
Ziegler-Jöns studied Physics at the Technical University of
Munich. The first four years following his Diplom he spent working
in industry,
and for one year he taught at a private grammar school. At this
point, he returned to the Technical University of Munich to complete
is PhD
and Habilitation in the area of biophysics. His research topic was
the characteristics of photosynthesis of ears of cereals.
In
1989 Dr. Ziegler-Jöns took up a position in the Education and
Science Ministry (Senator für Bildung und Wissenschaft) in
Bremen, where
he was active in the area of Mathematics and Physics, Environment
and Logistics. From 1992 to 1999 he led the Section for Scientific
Development and was responsible for the development of Bremen's
scientific and research infrastructure, with a special investment
program of about 1 billion Deutsch Marks. In this function he was
involved in the development of several academic and research institutions
in Bremen, such as IUB from 1997 onwards. Dr. Ziegler-Jöns
is a member of an international Jury in Stockholm and in Rome, which
is
analysing, evaluating and supporting the use of information technology.
In
1998 Dr. Ziegler-Jöns acted as the CEO of the International
University Bremen Planning Corporation, and after IUB's founding
in February
1999, he became IUB's Vice-President (Prokurist). He is in charge
of technology transfer, IUB's business relations and the development
of
the Science Park.
Dr.
Ziegler-Jöns is married and has one daughter (born in 1983).
