The word "education" comes from the Latin word "educare" meaning "to lead out." Education can lead a student out of ignorance, and encourage the ability and creativity in each individual. I would like to see students being taught the meanings of words, so they can understand and use the concepts and ideas symbolized by those words. I would like to see students free to evaluate information as to its source and use in their own lives. And in the Global Junior Challenge, I hope to find projects which will do these things using new information technologies. Education is the way in which our knowledge and culture continue through time. Without an effective method of education, we lose our past and cannot create a better future. And for those reasons, I applaud the Global Junior Challenge and its mission, and am proud to be part of it.
