Young Heroes of The Internet!
Fiera di Roma
Pad. 31
Via Cristoforo Colombo
Monday 4th, 10.30 am 3 pm

Meet Nicole, Melvin, Anton and their friends. They will present three fine projects and illustrate how children can skilfully use the Internet to go far beyond their ordinary boundaries. By building extensive networks of young people and creating projects together, they become the real great pioneers in the information society.

The project show is arranged by the Global Junior Challenge team and will take place in the exhibition area in the morning and the afternoon of Monday December 4th, . The Challenge spirit is manifested by the show; to learn from each other, get new friends and be inspired, brave and innovative on the Internet.

Three projects have been invited to take the stand for a half an hour each. They come from Italy, USA and Egypt and show how to make a very successful use of the Internet, for both useful learning and fun.

  • Harlem Live is a web-based publication that is produced by very skilled young boys and girls in Harlem, New York. The project involves many young people who learn how to use the Internet tools and who are trained to record their environment, by writing and picturing. Harlem Live represents a different kind of schooling and training for life, that perfectly suits the new information-based era.

The Harlem Live project is presented by Nicole Farrow and Melvin Johnson. The introduction to the project and the closing comments will be carried out by the young moderator Anton Govor from Russia.

  • Little Horus Web Site is a place in cyberspace for building bridges among children and promote peace and understanding across borders. The site is used by thousands of children all over the world to learn about Egypt´s history, economy, culture and social life today. Children work together at Little Horus Club and develop their own web pages, make friends and discuss their opinions and ideas.

Little Horus Web Site is presented by children from Cairo and introduced by a young girl from Rome.

The School Webby project is presented by students from 4 Italian cities participating to the Italian Telecities network.

  • School Webby is an on line newspaper for primary and secondary schools promoted by the association Telecities, the association of digital cities. 9 Italian Municipalities participate to this project (Rome, Bologna, Turin, Piacenza, Rovigo, Siena, Livorno, Grosseto and Bari), each one with a different number of schools. The sub-editors, selected by and in the schools, are assisted, in a sort of tutorship, by journalists and apprentice journalists who follow their work, a fact which immediately adds value to the project: therefore the newspaper takes, in its production stage, the shape of an information and writing gym, typical of journalism schools
