TELECITIES European Association of Digital Cities
Telecities
was born in 1993 as member of Eurocities and consists in an open
network in the city for the cooperation and the development of common
policies and projects in the field of new information technologies.
Since
1993 Telecities has connected cities already using new information
technologies to support the local development. Today 99 out of 120
cities belong to 14 EU Member States. In this way Telecities offers a
wide skill and experience able to meet the European demand on the use
of technologies and to be spread it among the European Institutions.
Telecities is the widest European city network collaborating on the
identification and definition of technological services, applications
and facilities to support economic and social development in the
cities. The main aim is to exchange experiences and work on common
projects to invent applications and innovative services to meet
users needs and be interconnected, standardised and usable as
much as possible. The Telecities members are both big and
middle-small cities; both areas with an increasing demand and supply
of technological services, and underdeveloped areas. This is the
reason why among the activities of the association there is the
individuation of priorities and actions at the EU level in the field
of the Information Society, aimed at maximising the benefits from the
development of the new technologies in different city contests. To
this end Telecities promotes the exchange and the transfer of
successful experiences among the associated cities and stimulates the
creation of public-private partnership to build facilities and
innovative services aimed at:
-
Local
and economic development, most of all of SME services;
