FRENZY OF THE END OF MILLENIUM

This project is a testimony to the initiative, sacrifice and great enthusiasm of teachers to exploit the educational opportunities offered by the new information and communication technologies. This is the case of teacher Ersilia Salvatore and those who joined her into creating a new educational reality involving many classes inside the Istitute Tecnico Commerciale and from other Institutes in the province. Today, some 300 teachers and students are cooperating in the use and further development of a web hypertext product hat works as a labsite, creating an alternative didactic use of the network. In this new environment, workgroups offer an alternative to the classroom and the doors are opened for the formation of international school institutions. This achievement was the result of the generous donation of teachers' and students' time deriving from their simple love for the profession.

The adventures of Piera…the tin which was not inclined to end up in a rubbish bin
The idea of this wonderful project run by Scuola Media Dante Alighieri di Spoleto, Umbria, was born in the 1st-year-class of the secondary school: Learning while Teaching. Environment protection was chosen as a content platform due to its utmost importance for the education of future citizens. An extremely attractive way of telling a story with nice music accompaniment gained Piera-the-Tin a lot of friends among young children who have learned responsible attitudes towards protecting the environment while being fascinated by new technology like Internet or multimedia CD-ROM. Some pupils have bought their own computers, others have put electronic mail boxes into operation, others have made their own sites. In this way the Scuola Media Dante Alighieri provides an example of how innovative teachers and pupils working together can make a difference in the emerging new world of education.
