Junior Voices

from ROMANIA

Comment: We are very glad that we had the opportunity to participate in this international project and we think that we did a great job. We are waiting for the other packages to arrive. We received a great package from TURKEY and ISRAEL . We are very glad because we succeeded to know more about other countries and to know more about us. We loved this project very much and we hope to start another one very soon.

Our brain works as a computer whose circuits are our inner synapses, just that, this machine gets old. We know nothing about the transmission of information in our body, that’s why the creative mind of the human being has built a much more accessible machine which can respond to the needs of mankind. For instance: one day when I was desperately seeking a book hard to find I was amazed by the Internet. Botosani is a town with a beautiful Public Library but, I’m always confronting with  the lack of philosophy writings. A friend of mine guided me to our school computer and I was happy when I saw lots of books compressed in files easy to study and to access. From that day I said “Bye-bye” to the long hours spent into reading room and I really wish to have a computer of my own , at school. I think that all we have to do is to mix up school and technology.

Roxana HUSAC, 17 years old, Student, Botosani, Romania

Anybody knows that in the future school will not only mean computer classes but, even interactive (on-line) school, in which every student will stay at home and will communicate with his/hers teachers through his/her computer.
In Romania, I’m afraid, reality is so far from the picture imagined above. Watch the following paradox : by the one hand many students think that using Internet for school research may seem a joke (something like playing games) and by the other hand Romanian students got the Silver medal at the International Olympics of Informatics (Tokyo 2000) when most Romanian high schools have a ridiculous number of computers. The laboratories don’t have proper utilities and the computers need major up-grading.

Madalina PINTILIE, 17 years old, Student, Botosani-Romania

No teacher, no problem ! Not a human being, but a hellish demon, carrying a huge quantity of words, numbers and marks makes our mornings a living nightmare. Oh, how I wish it would vanish, disappear, dissipate in little, harmless particles, for all youth’s sake.
Maybe the near future holds something for us: no teachers, just me, my laptop and a score of other teens and of other computers. And maybe a friendly assistant. Ah, that’s a living! Instant access to information, courtesy of a better version of  the Internet – and free! Each one learning what he wants, preparing himself for the future chosen by himself, and himself only. No extra, useless information, no stress, no compelling. And everything done digitally-even examinations. After all, machine are the most objective in this way.
